    Description

    An expressionistic piece of work -- by Willem de Koonig (1904-   ) on the card but he died in 1997 so now would read 1904-1997.  The card is stamped Spoleto Festival USA in Charleston South with the Art work stamped 1974 in date. The post stamp shows the card was mailed in 1998 from Charleston. According to history, Spoleto (of 2 worlds) in South Carolina did not begin until later -- 1977 or 1978, so perhaps this card was gift-store item of Spoleto posters sold as postcards..... so don't be confused. The card was featured for SC Spoleto Music / Opera Festival, but postmarked 1983 even though the poster-card is dated 1974 --- signed in the print by Koonig --- letter in Italian (by an American) on the back -- a great piece of music festival epherma and if you love this very fine poster from Spoleto, you'll love having the smaller version postcard -- which isn't so small at 6.5 inches by 4.5 inches.
