Antique 1827 Pattern British Naval Officers Sword

Description

Original Victorian era British 1827 Pattern Naval Officer's sword with the leather scabbard and original sword knot. The half basket gilt brass hilt is in good condition and has an embossed crown and anchor motif. The folding guard section works well and secures the sword in scabbard tight. The Wilkinson type nearly straight cut and thrust blade is stained and pitted

Right side of blade has original “PROVED” inlay and the maker mark on the left side.
Both sides of the blade are showing original etching remains.
The grip is made from shark skin / fishskin and bound with twistwire (some missing).
Hilt and blade are tight and firm with no little movement.
Total length of the sword in the scabbard: 95 cm (37 1/3")
Length of the blade with handle: 93 cm (36 1/2")
Length of the blade without handle: 80 cm (31 1/2")
